The Parish Church of St John the Baptist, Widford
Widford Church is part of a wider group of churches including St Dunstan, Hunsdon and Holy Trinity, Wareside. Our benefice website has most of the information about how we, together, are seeking to Know Christ and Make Him Known. We hope these few pages dedicated to Widford Church will help you to get a feel for what Widford Church is about.
We would be delighted to welcome you to worship with us on Sundays. Our services are fairly traditional in style, but the message is relevant to contemporary society. Our modern language services, held at 9:30am, are Morning Prayer on the first Sunday of the month and Holy Communion on the third Sunday. We enjoy Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer (1662) at 6:30pm on the second Sunday. On the fourth Sunday, our church building is given over to the young people of the benefice for their Alternative Worship Event (AWE).
In addition to Sunday worship, there are a number of home-groups which meet across the benefice, including "Sigma" which meets in Widford and comprises mainly Widford residents. The purpose of these groups is to provide opportunity for members to pray and study the Bible together as well as enjoying one another's company. We also meet together in the home of a church member on Tuesday mornings for Parish Prayers.
We host a variety of special events through the year. Some are for the church family and some are put on for the benefit of our neighbours and friends in the local community. A full calendar of events is available on the main benefice website.
